Oceans
Oceans makes up most of the earth. There are about 4 oceans and they flow into each other. The Pacific, Atlantic, India and Artic.
There is also a Southern ocean if you didn't know ;). All rivers and some seas drain into it.
Many people think the Antarctica may count as an ocean but it has some land... so... no.
Rivers
Well you might know that rivers feed other river, if you don't know that.. then now you know.
There are four feature looked for in rivers. Length, Discharge, Drainage area
and Navigability. If you look it up, it says the Nile is the world's longest river.
Lakes
Lakes are bodies of water enclosed by land. Many cities are located near lakes because lakes
give people transportation, drinking water, fish and much more. The Great Lakes are the biggest
freshwater lakes. But the biggest lake is the Caspian sea. Crazy huh.
Seas
Seas are partly enclosed by land and are used for ports. Because ships need a safe place to dock and load
there cargo they go into places called a harbor. Harbors can shelter ships from winds and waves that can push
them towards land. Good harbors are rare and there are only a few.
Wetlands
Wetlands aren't really bodies of water nor dry land. They are actually murky pools of water
that don't have anything to drain them. Wetlands are mostly at sea level.
Bogs
Bogs are spongy dry looking areas that are covered with organic materials. Moss mostly
grows in bogs. The moss collects a material called peat.
Marsh
Marshes have visible water. They have many grasses and small water plants. In order to find a really
big marsh you would go to Florida. The Florida Everglades in a very big marsh.
Swamps
Like marshes, swamps also have visible water. The difference between marshes and swamps are that
swamps have trees, unlike marshes. Swamps has much wild life like Alligators, snakes and other wild animals.
If you ever been to one it might be creepy to you.
